Victoria’s Canada Day just got a $100,000 boost after council voted to reallocate money from a grant for major initiatives and events. The commitee of the whole voted in favour of a motion to reallocate additional money from the Victoria’s Major Community Initiatives and Event Grant (MCIEG) towards Canada Day. “We’ve decided this morning, unanimously, that we would take that $100,000 and add it to the Canada Day budget for 2026,” Mayor Marianne Alto said in an interview with CHEK News. So it is a it is a common thing for the provincial government to support Canada Day celebrations in its capital city.”The B.C. Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport says it recognizes the importance of Canada Day events for communities to come together.
