SANTA FE, N.M. – New Mexico lawmakers are focusing on environmental issues at the Roundhouse, including a $50 million investment in uranium mine cleanup. The Senate Conservation Committee unanimously approved the bill Thursday morning. She said, “we literally had West Nile cases from every county in the state.”Tobiassen shared a personal story about her husband contracting West Nile virus, saying, “in September. My husband was bit at home by a mosquito, and very quickly started displaying signs of a stroke.”The committee approved Tobiassen’s $2 million request for a statewide mosquito surveillance program. Democratic lawmakers are also working on a bill to enforce the state’s greenhouse gas reduction goals, aiming for a 100% reduction by 2050.
