TAIZ – Local residents in Taiz governorate, southwestern Yemen, reported on Thursday, January 29, the killing of a young woman in a sniper incident attributed to the Houthi group, designated as a terrorist organization. According to eyewitnesses, the victim, identified as Asmaa Ali Naji Saeed Naji, in her twenties, was shot dead by a Houthi sniper while she was on the rooftop of her home in the Asifra neighborhood of Cairo district, east of Taiz city. Residents said the sniper, stationed at the Kanbatayn hilltop, targeted Asmaa as she was hanging laundry, fatally striking her. Local sources stressed that this incident is part of a disturbing pattern of sniper attacks in Taiz. Yemen Daily News documented dozens of civilian casualties, including women and children, throughout 2025 alone, in similar incidents attributed to Houthi snipers across the governorate.
