Vaping in public places and public meetings will be illegal in Alabama if a bill approved by the state Senate on Thursday becomes law. The bill by Sen. Gerald Allen, R-Cottondale, adds vaping to the Alabama Clean Indoor Air Act, which prohibits smoking in public places, with a few exceptions, such as bars and lounges and retail tobacco stores. Allen said he told another spectator at the game that he was breaking the law by vaping in the stands. The Alabama Clean Indoor Air Act, passed in 2003, prohibits smoking in most enclosed public spaces, including retail stores, restaurants, government buildings, shopping malls, elevators, hospitals, nursing homes, airports, banks, and others. In addition to adding vaping to the ban on smoking in public places, Allen’s bill would rename the law the smoking Allen’s bill would rename the law the Vivian Davis Figures Clean Indoor Air Act.
