Now, Alecio, her husband, and their two daughters aged nine and 11 live out of the RV in a Mission Bay parking lot, racking up roughly $1,000 in parking tickets less than three weeks. “We don’t have enough money to go and get our registers up to date, our tags up to date,” said Alecio to local PBS affiliate KPBS. This eligibility is predicated on their ability to provide proof of documented homelessness and financial hardship, but the City of San Diego isn’t planning on changing their policy at this time. “We have to balance compassion, fairness with accountability,” said Lieutenant VT Do with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
