Bend woman killed in head-on collision near Powell Butte

A Bend woman died in a head-on vehicle collision on Wednesday morning, Jan. 28 near Powell Butte.
According to an Oregon State Police report, the crash happened shortly after 9 a.m., at milepost 7 on Highway 126, a short distance east of the junction with Powell Butte Highway.
A preliminary investigation determined that a westbound Jeep Cherokee, driven by 25-year-old Aspen Cheyenne Hadley, of Bend, crossed the centerline for unknown reasons and struck an eastbound Freightliner box truck, driven by 35-year-old Redmond resident Leah Lynn Laforest, head-on.
Laforest reportedly suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
The highway was closed for approximately three hours during the on-scene investigation.
