With the help of a $2 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Katherine McNeill is redesigning science curricula to make learning science more equitable and accessible for Boston Public School students. “Co-designing tools with elementary science teachers to customize curricula for specific student needs is important work,” Wortham said in a University release. With the grant money from the NSF, McNeill plans to expand from a group of seven teachers to 70 within the next two years. “A lot of the funds are going towards actually paying for the teachers’ time after school,” McNeill said. On top of improving the application of science curricula, McNeill also hopes to share the stories and hardships of the teachers and instructional leaders she has worked with.
