The 2024 PIT Count recorded 1,725 people homeless in Solano County — a 46.3 percent increase from the last full unsheltered count in 2022. In Vacaville in 2024, the PIT count found 194 unsheltered individuals and 39 sheltered, for a total of 233. Still, not all unhoused individuals in Vacaville suffer from those issues, and the Thomsons are full of stories involving human ingenuity and willpower to survive. Convincing unhoused people to participate in the PIT Count can be a major challenge, the Thomsons said. In central Vacaville near Peabody Road, the Thomsons found a group of unhoused people living out of their cars.
