City of Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero remains in office following a postponement of a motion of no confidence against him. The Council was due to hold a vote on Thursday (29 January). Dada Morero survives – at least for nowAl Jamah councillor and former mayor Kabelo Gwamanda filed the motion on 15 January, with the United Democratic Movement (UDM) seconding it. On Wednesday, the government of local unity’s political management committee (PMC) requested the ANC to ask Morero to resign. The postponement followed another vote in which the Council approved the establishment of a deputy executive mayor position, which comes with a R1.28 million annual cost to taxpayers.
