The European Union will designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, Euronews reported. The move, which requires formal adoption in the coming days, introduces an asset freeze, a ban on funding, and travel restrictions for IRGC members. The US, Canada, and Australia have already designated the IRGC as a terrorist organization. The designation follows weeks of discussion within the EU, with France, Spain, Belgium, and Italy ultimately agreeing to the measure after initially expressing reservations. The IRGC, established in 1979, is estimated to have 125,000–190,000 members in its army, navy, and air units and maintains significant influence over Iran’s political, economic, and social sectors.
