Both this year and next year Anzac Day falls on a weekend, which for many states means that Australians won’t be experiencing a late April public holiday in 2026.
With only a few states reocginising the date as a public holiday regardless and moving the day off to the Monday the 27th, these states are the ACT and WA.
However, it looks like that another major state is eyeing the idea of recognising the day and moving the public holiday day off to the Monday the 27th of April.
NSW Premier Chris Minns has revealed that discussions regarding creating a new public holiday to make up for the fact that for the next two years Anzac Day falls on a weekend.
No other state has commented yet on whether they too are contemplating making the 27th of April a public holiday.
