Māori kapa haka takes our reo and tikanga to India in powerful Indigenous exchange
['Rebel Reid']
Waatea News: Māori Radio Station
Role Funding:A group of Māori representatives have taken kapa haka to India this week, performing haka and waiata at one of the biggest Indigenous gatherings in the region, the Sammakka Saralamma Jatara festival in Telangana.
For us as Māori, haka is not just something you do for show.
Footage from the event shows the Māori group being warmly welcomed, with local leaders joining in and acknowledging the strength of Māori culture.
It was a moment of mutual respect, where our tikanga met their tikanga, and the message was clear.
Indigenous peoples across the world have shared experiences, shared struggles, and shared pride.
