Symbolically, in another part of Progressive Field, the Guardians on the same day announced Jose Ramirez signed a four-year contract extension that runs through 2032.
The story broke on Jan. 24, but the Guardians waited until the contract was signed and Ramirez passed his physical to make the news official.
Jose officially signed his contract extension through 2032 Thursday.
“I’m always thankful for the treatment, the loyalty they show not only to me, but to the team,” Ramirez said through interpreter Augustin Rivero.
That’s the date of the Guardians home opener against the Cubs, when a sold-out Progressive Field crowd with sing-song “Jose, Jose, Jose, Joseee” for the first time in 2026.
