China executed 11 members of the Ming family criminal syndicate on Thursday for running mafia-style scam operations in Myanmar and killing workers who tried to escape, CNN reported. The Ming family ranked among the so-called “four families” of northern Myanmar, powerful crime syndicates accused of operating hundreds of compounds involved in online fraud, prostitution, and drug production. Authorities said the groups exploited trafficked workers and maintained close ties to local officials and militia aligned with Myanmar’s junta. That November, Chinese authorities issued arrest warrants for Ming family members and offered cash rewards for their capture. Prosecutors said the Ming family also collaborated with another syndicate led by Wu Hongming to deliberately kill, injure, and detain scam workers, actions that resulted in the deaths of 14 Chinese citizens.
