Green Party councillor Karen Lewing has welcomed an Early Day Motion proposed by Green MP Siân Berry calling for a ban on the use of pesticides in public spaces. Councillor Lewing, representing Arboretum, said Worcester City Council has made progress in reducing its reliance on pesticides by introducing preventative measures and using alternatives wherever possible. A recent study by Pesticides Action Network (PAN UK) has found glyphosate residue in playgrounds, including on play equipment such as swings and slides. Siân Berry has now tabled an Early Day Motion to ban the use of glyphosate in public spaces, a move Cllr Lewing has welcomed. She added: “Children’s health advocates are clear that exposure to herbicides is an unnecessary health risk, and all landowners should have the ambition to reduce and eliminate their use.
