This comes as National Highways prepares to close the motorway this weekend between Junction 8 and Junction 9 to allow for the installation of steel beams for new roundabout bridge decks.
Tom Beasley, senior project manager, said: “We have got a number of big milestones coming up between now and the opening.
The upcoming closure is really important because these beams are the support structure for the new bridges.
This closure will allow things to move on.”Mr Beasley said that the scheme is on track to meet the summer 2028 finishing date.
It is the biggest engineering scheme in the Winchester area since the construction of the M3 through Twyford Down in 1992-94.
