People living in the vans at the site say they are “afraid” after the notices were posted on the side of their vans on Wednesday. Some claimed they are unable to leave due to health conditions and the need for vehicle repairs preventing them from moving. Martin Terry, Southend Independent councillor for community safety and regulatory services, said: “Two Tree Island is a protected nature reserve and overnight occupation is not permitted. "Our officers have therefore issued standard notices in line with the council’s legal responsibilities as the landowner. "People on site have been engaging with officers and many are now making arrangements to leave.
