Penn State University has sued several pharmaceutical companies alleging they conspired to inflate the price of insulin and other drugs the university paid for through its insurance program.
Penn State University ends up footing the bill by helping pay the cost of insulin for its employees through its health benefits plan.
The university filed its complaint in the federal district of New Jersey on Jan. 13, naming 21 defendants.
Penn State University has standing to sue because it provides cost coverage and reimbursement of insulin for its employees.
The university is asking the federal courts to find the companies violated Pennsylvania’s unfair trade practices, committed fraud and engaged in civil conspiracy and unjust enrichment.
