Vice President JD Vance “offered comfort” to antisemites on the right long before he ignited controversy by not mentioning Jews in a social media post earlier this week, said Gov. “So, it’s not a shock to me that he would omit that, but it’s a sad day that the vice president of the United States on Holocaust Awareness Day couldn’t address that,” said Shapiro, who is Jewish, about Vance’s post on X on Tuesday. Shapiro told NBC News that he was not surprised by Vance not specifically mentioning Jews in his post. “The fact that JD Vance couldn’t bring himself to acknowledging that 6 million Jews were killed by Hitler and by the Nazis speaks volumes,” said Shapiro. Shapiro, the Vance spokesperson noted, did not mention Jews in his own X post on Holocaust Remembrance Day and “desperately tried to shift blame to the vice president.”However, Shapiro did address “rising antisemitism” in this country.
