MERCED COUNTY — A Merced man suspected of driving under the influence was arrested Sunday night after a head‑on collision on State Route 140 that left three people with major injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Prius struck the westbound Nissan head‑on. The Nissan was driven by a 25‑year‑old Newman woman, with a 30‑year‑old Newman woman riding in the front passenger seat. Both women suffered major injuries and were flown to Modesto‑area hospitals. Juan also sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
