Internet scams like this are an unfortunate fact of life in the digital age that we live in now. According to the FBI, over $16 billion was lost in 2024 due to internet scams, which was a 33% increase from 2023. The Pew Research Center expanded on this data, noting that 73% of American adults had experienced an internet scam. Do this before releasing personal information or reaching out to other parties outside of the official website.
