North Platte Bulletin
After years of inactivity, North Platte’s Board of Health reconvened Wednesday to begin tackling a growing problem – insect infestations.
The city’s board of health is tasked with enacting regulations to safeguard public health, enforcing sanitation-related laws, and addressing nuisances that affect health and safety.
Members discussed the authority of the board has under city code, the resources that are available to residents and landlords, and gaps that remain when infestations affect neighbors.
In addition to Mayor Brandon Kelliher, the current members are City Council President Jim Nisley, physician Dr. Shawn Murdoch, the head of the West Central District Health Department Meghan Trevino, and Police Chief Steve Reeves.
Board members discussed the need for earlier reporting and the coordination of first responders, the health department, and agencies that can act when conditions spill over into neighboring places.
