At the request of the Mérida City Council, the Santa María Project Environmental Outreach and Conservation Center captured and relocated a Boa constrictor (Boa constrictor imperator), known in the Mayan language as Och Kaan, which was found very close to homes in the Vergel IV subdivision. After notifying the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa) and receiving the corresponding instructions, the director of the Santa María Project, Pierre Medina Arjona, carried out the safe capture of the animal without causing it harm. According to Proyecto Santa María, due to the presence of birds sheltered at their refuge, it is common for snakes to approach the site. Therefore, capture and relocation efforts are carried out periodically as part of their work in conservation and responsible wildlife management. The public is urged not to harm or attempt to handle wildlife and to immediately report any such incidents to the appropriate authorities.
