Organizers are expecting a good turnout at demonstrations in Eureka this weekend as part of nationwide protests against ICE violence. A general strike and two demonstrations are planned locally for Friday and Saturday, organized by 50501 Humboldt in tandem with national groups. The shutdown, also called a general strike by organizers, encourages people to leave school, work and avoid shopping Friday. The weekend protests are endorsed by Food Not Bombs, Youth Democratic Socialist of America, Students for a Democratic Society and Humboldt Anti-War Committee. The local labor council has endorsed and supported the general strike, but will not be participating in the strike, according to AJ.
