WINTER STORM WATCH ISSUED FOR BUNCOMBE AND HENDERSON COUNTIES STARTING FRIDAY AFTERNOONAs another winter storm moves into the western North Carolina region, Buncombe County and Henderson County will be under a winter storm watch beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29. The winter storm watch will remain in effect through Saturday night. According to a release from Buncombe County, the county says, unlike the ice storm last week, no significant impacts to power are expected. Staying off the roads allows first responders, city road crews, the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the North Carolina National Guard, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol to work safely to clear roads and respond to emergencies. With the extended period of cold temperatures, some ponds, lakes, and streams have a thin layer of ice on top of the water.
