The National Weather Service Morristown has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for much of east Tennessee, southwest Virginia and portions of southwest North Carolina, effective early Saturday through Sunday afternoon. The advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. EST (4 a.m. CST) Saturday until 1 p.m. EST (noon CST) Sunday. Forecasters say very cold wind chills are expected, with readings ranging from 5 degrees above zero to 5 degrees below zero across the Tennessee Valley, Cumberland Plateau and southwest North Carolina. In southwest Virginia, wind chills could drop to between zero and 10 degrees below zero at times. Officials warn that the dangerous wind chills could lead to hypothermia if proper precautions are not taken.
