Keith Myers(CNS): Criminal defence attorney Keith Myers has been reinstated to the list of lawyers available and willing to undertake legal aid work. The director of Legal Aid removed him from the list in October 2024 following concerns raised by the Court of Appeal about his conduct in a “troubling case”. The bulk of Myers’ work is paid for by legal aid. As a result, Grand Court Justice Marlene Carter recently ruled that the Legal Aid director had acted outside her statutory powers when she removed him from the legal aid list and deprived him of a large percentage of his work. The Legal Aid Act expressly states that an attorney who improperly withdraws from a legal aid case commits professional misconduct and must be disciplined under the LPA — not by the director.
