Courtney Janell Shaw, 47, was taken into custody on Monday, January 19, and placed on administrative leave from her position at Free Home Elementary School. Shaw was booked into the Cherokee County Jail and charged with one felony count of theft by shoplifting. The Cherokee County School District confirmed Shaw’s employment status in a statement released to parents and media outlets. The incident is not the first case of a school administrator being accused of theft at Walmart self-checkout stations. The school district has not indicated whether she will be allowed to return to her position if cleared of the charges or what additional disciplinary measures might be considered.
