The steel-mesh suicide barrier installed on the Golden Gate Bridge two years ago has proved to be effective.
Four people died after jumping from the span last year, an 87% decline from annual average of 30 fatal falls before the barrier, according bridge officials.
The Whitmers turned to the Bridge Rail Foundation, a nonprofit organization that advocated for the barrier.
I’m grateful for that.”The Golden Gate Bridge is known as one of the deadliest suicide sites in the world, recording around 2,000 deaths since its completion in 1937.
As completion of the barrier neared in 2023, there were 14 recorded suicides, signaling the start of a decline.
