The history of Napa Valley is one of agricultural growth, thriving tourism and significant prosperity.
Now, a new documentary presented by the Napa County Historical Society seeks to correct the record and bring to light the story of Chinese immigrants in the Napa region.
Titled “Chinese in Napa Valley,” the film uses archival images, family stories and expert insight to uncover the “labor, resilience and community life that helped shape the valley,” according to the historical society.
In the mid-19th century, according to the Napa County Historical Society, a mass immigration movement of laborers from China meant the Chinese community in Napa County grew rapidly.
McCormick, who grew up in Napa, remembers no mention of the Chinese community in the local history he was taught at school.
