Coronation armour of the King’s Champion goes on display at the Tower of LondonA rare suit of armour worn during one of Britain’s oldest royal ceremonies has gone on public display at the Tower of London, marking the first time it has been permanently accessible to visitors. From today, visitors have been able to view the only confirmed armour ever worn by a King’s Champion at a British coronation. It was the last occasion on which the ancient ritual of the King’s Champion was performed at a coronation. The Royal Armouries welcomes around 1.7 million visitors to the Tower of London each year, with plans for the armour to travel in future to Leeds, home to the Royal Armouries Museum. “As the Memorial Fund turns 45, we are delighted to count the King’s Champion Armour among the heritage saved for the nation, in memory of those who have given their lives for the UK,” he said.
