The official start of tax season is underway, and taxpayers can now file their 2025 federal returns. Several new tax law provisions are in effect this year, and experts say they could help some filers reduce what they owe or increase their refunds. “One of the biggest things… is that it continues those rules beyond 2025, so the average American family doesn’t see a tax increase,” said Tom O’Saben, a spokesperson for the National Association of Tax Professionals. “All a taxpayer has to be is age 65 or over, and they have a $6,000 deduction,” O’Saben said. Additional deductions are now available for tips, overtime pay and car loan interest, depending on income level.
