On Feb. 2, Worcester will celebrate Groundhog Day by checking if the EcoTarium’s groundhog, Cornelia, sees her shadow. This year, however, the ceremony is invitation-only due to Groundhog Day taking place on a Monday — the day the EcoTarium is typically closed. These people include Worcester Mayor Joseph Petty, members of the Worcester City Council, members of the museum’s board, students and teachers from Tufts University and Worcester Tech and a teacher from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, according to Fisher. This will be the fourth year the EcoTarium has held a Groundhog Day event. Much like Punxsutawney Phil, the famous groundhog from Pennsylvania, if Cornelia sees her shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter.
