FOXBOROUGH — With Josh McDaniels up for the Assistant Coach of the Year Award at NFL Honors, Stefon Diggs has become one of his most vocal advocates. Under McDaniels, Diggs caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards in his first season coming off an ACL tear, and the Patriots had the league’s second-best scoring offense and finished third in total yardage. “Hell of a coach,” Diggs said. Coming from the standpoint of the X’s and O’s, I don’t think there’s anybody better than him at drawing it up and seeing what he’s seeing. So he’s a hell of a coach.”If McDaniels does win the NFL’s Assistant Coach of the Year Award next week in San Francisco, the coordinator won’t be on hand to accept.
