Worcester Mayor Joseph Petty on Wednesday expressed his belief that 37-year-old Alex Pretti of Minnesota was murdered by federal officers. He also criticized federal agents for the detainment of a five-year-old boy by ICE in Minneapolis. Worcester police were called to the scene by federal agents and members of the public, many of them protesting and confronting the ICE agents during the arrest. On May 13, protesters gathered outside of City Hall, accusing the Worcester Police Department of collaborating with ICE agents and demanding that federal officers leave the city. Saucier defended the police department’s actions on Eureka Street, telling the commission officers were not there to help or hinder any agent.
