GENESEE COUNTY, MI -- There’s about to be a new position in Genesee County government -- one that the Board of Commissioners believes could help transform the area by shepherding some of its biggest projects. Commissioners agreed to establish a chief strategic growth officer job at an estimated annual cost of $170,000 on Wednesday, Jan. 28. They’ve said the position, which still must be filled, can help lead efforts to pursue big community and economic development projects. County priorities are grouped into four broad areas, with community and economic growth listed as the commissioners’ top goal. In October, commissioners agreed to begin formal evaluations for the first time of both Freeman and Corporation Counsel Brian MacMillan, both of whom report directly to them.
