Hyderabad: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the phone-tapping case during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) regime in Telangana has asked party supremo and former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao aka KCR to appear before it and record a statement.
It’s the first time that KCR has been formally summoned in connection with the high-profile investigation.
On Thursday, SIT officials visited KCR’s residence at Nandi Nagar in Banjara Hills to serve the notice under Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
The notice has asked KCR to cooperate with the investigation, but also noted that given his age, he is not legally bound to appear in person and may choose a convenient location for meeting officials.
However, BRS lost the election in December 2023, winning just 39 seats while Congress earned majority in the 119-member state Assembly with 64.
