The policy, scrapped in 2015, aims to gradually bring social rents into line with a national target, ensuring similar homes charge similar rents. Woodley said in a statement that spades in the ground on 400 new homes are part of the council’s “mission to deliver 1,000 new council homes for social rent across Hackney“. She added: “We’re building some of the best new council homes in the country.”At least 300 of the new homes will be let at social rent, funded jointly by the Mayor of London’s Affordable Homes Programme and Hackney Council. She added that pressure on social housing remained a “major concern” for boroughs across the capital.
