New Delhi: There is no strong scientific evidence to prove that paracetamol is linked to autism, said health experts Tuesday, after US President Donald Trump linked the painkiller to the neurodevelopmental condition. Autism, also known as autism spectrum disorder, is a condition characterised by differences or difficulties in social communication and interaction. Acetaminophen is the most commonly used over-the-counter medication taken during pregnancy, with more than 50 per cent of pregnant women using the medicine worldwide. It is widely used for headaches, pain, or fever by pregnant women. Speaking to the media, she also cited the lack of “proven scientific evidence” on paracetamol’s association with autism.
