UK passport holders will no longer require visas for short-term stays in China, it was announced on Thursday 29 January 2026, following a string of successful talks between the UK’s Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, Chinese President Xi Jinping and other officials. UK passport holders may now enter China for under 30 days visa-free, aligning with citizens of countries including France, Germany, Italy, Australia, and Japan. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said, “As one of the world’s economic powerhouses, businesses have been crying out for ways to grow their footprints in China. Following the announcement, Peter Chipchase, Abercrombie & Kent’s chief brand officer, said, “Visa-free travel opens an exciting new chapter for anyone wanting to explore China. We’re confident this announcement will encourage more UK travellers to visit, building growth and excitement for the destination.”
