In Penarth, Mel Griffin, owner of Griffin Books, said: "This evidence-based report on Wales's bookshop sector confirms what we already knew, that independent bookshops like ours are so much more than just retail outlets. "A striking statistic in the report is that 100% of Wales's bookshops run activities and events for their community." She added: "We are cultural spaces, organising a myriad of different events including book launches, author signings, poetry readings, writing workshops and more. "And we promote and support Welsh language and culture through our range of stock, the events we hold and supplying learner resources. "But all this comes at a cost, and in the current climate it’s a cost too many independent bookshops are struggling to meet.
