The event would have taken place on Saturday, but Braintree district council has since announced its cancellation due to an anticipated protest. In a social media post, a spokesperson for the council said: "We regret that the market in Braintree Town Centre will be cancelled this weekend (January 31). "There is an anticipated protest in the town and we are not clear on the numbers expected, making it difficult to manage the safety issues arising from this for all users of the town centre. "Our traders have been informed of this decision and we apologise for any inconvenience." The weekly market takes place across Market Place, Great Square, and Bank Street every Saturday from 9am to 3:30pm, featuring local food, drinks, and craft traders.
