Matthew Protheroe, of Holborn Crescent in Brynteg, appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court on Tuesday. When he was stopped shortly thereafter, he gave a positive roadside alcohol sample which resulted in his arrest. In custody, he gave an evidential sample which revealed 69 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath - the limit being 35. Ms Carson told the court Protheroe had a previous drug-drive on his record from 2020. District Judge Gwyn Jones told Protheroe he'd "fallen into the trap" many motorists have in the past - by thinking that they are "ok" to drive after even a small quantity of alcohol; but were in fact over the limit.
