The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued Winter Storm Watches for many counties beginning Friday afternoon and lasting through Sunday, while Winter Storm Warnings are already in effect for some mountain areas, including Avery County, the Burke County mountains, and Caldwell County mountains. According to the NWS, several counties could see 3 to 6 inches of snow, while parts of central North Carolina, including Anson and Stanly counties, could receive 5 to 8 inches. Areas farther south and east, such as parts of Lancaster and Chesterfield counties, may see 2 to 5 inches. The storm is expected to begin impacting travel as early as Friday evening, just in time for the evening commute. The NWS said snow is likely to stick quickly to roads due to temperatures in the 20s, making conditions deteriorate fast.
