Neighbourhood officers teamed up with Newport City Council’s trading standards team to carry out enforcement action targeting the sale and supply of illegal tobacco and vapes in the city centre.
During the operation, illegal products were seized from six premises and two vehicles, along with more than £9,000 in cash.
In total, police recovered 48,440 illegal cigarettes, 5.6kg of illegal hand-rolled tobacco, and 1,000 illegal disposable vapes.
Chief Inspector for neighbourhoods, Stevie Warden, said:"Our neighbourhood policing teams in Newport work closely with trading standards at Newport City Council to develop intelligence and gather evidence on the sale of illegal vapes.
"As a police service, we recognise the sale of illegal vapes and counterfeit tobacco can be used to fund other types of organised crime."
