Reviving a tradition dating back to the early 1600s, the Frost Fair will start at Bankside at 11am on Saturday, January 31. This celebration commemorates the historical moments when, between 1605 and 1814, the Thames froze over and brought trading to a halt. Locals then took to ice with a flurry of markets, food stalls, games, and entertainment, transforming an unusual situation into a festival of sorts, known as 'Frost Fairs'. This year's Frost Fair, which promises to bring an echo of that extraordinary yesteryear to the banks of Thames, includes street performances, traditional games, music, and craft workshops. For those less inclined towards culture and entertainment, specially prepared Frost Fair-themed food and drink will also make an appearance across the wider Bankside area.
