SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — The cities of Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights have hired a lawyer to review the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District’s recommendation to remove the Lower Lake dam and drain the nearly 200-year-old body of water. Shaker Heights Mayor David Weiss said residents deserve a thorough process for determining the lake’s future. The district is “very encouraged” that the cities are closely studying all options regarding Lower Lake. NEORSD told Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights they would bear the full cost if they chose to keep the dam. Last month, NEORSD was forced to postpone erosion‑control repairs meant to stabilize riprap on the dam’s upstream face after receiving legal threats from an attorney on behalf of a Shaker Heights couple.
