Mentor mother charged after 2 children found outside in frigid cold

MENTOR, Ohio -- A woman is charged with child endangering after her two young children were found early Thursday outside a Mentor hotel in extreme cold, police said. Officers placed her in a warmed patrol vehicle and, with help from hotel residents, determined she had been staying at the hotel with her family. Additional officers were called in, and mutual aid was requested from the Lake County drone team, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mentor-on-the-Lake Police Department. Hotel residents also joined the search. Both children were evaluated for cold exposure at TriPoint Medical Center, but no injuries were found.
