Questions where raised as the Highlands saw a spike in the number of road collision fatalities. Calls to introduce stricter rules for young drivers have been met with a cautious response from a top Highland police officer. Chief Superintendent Rob Shepherd responded to questions from councillors about what the service’s plans are surrounding so-called graduated driving licences for young people. A father of one of the victims has since launched a campaign to limit the number of passengers young drivers can carry. The new scheme will be aimed at all new drivers but have the most impact on young drivers aged 17-23 years old.
