A large amount of rain this week from Storm Chandra has meant the Abingdon Weir crossing has been closed since Tuesday, January 27, and remains shut today (Thursday, January 29). The weir is a river control structure on the River Thames that originally dates back to the 10th century when monks from the local Abbey built it. From the north, people should follow the signed diversion through Abbey Meadows, along Abbey Close, and through the centre of Abingdon‑on‑Thames via Bridge Street.
